I’ve been dying to try the new Velvet Lipsticks from Portland based Alima Pure. They launched six shades in December, and they are every bit as gorgeous as I had hoped!
Each lipstick is housed in a refillable, recyclable gunmetal grey tube. There is a very slight vanilla scent, but nothing sweet or overpowering. They have a firm, slightly waxy texture. The formula features cocoa butter, jojoba, coconut, and sunflower oils, and is free from parabens, synthetic dyes, phthalates, dimethicone, petroleum, and talc.
One swipe will give you a sheer wash of color, but you can keep going to build a saturated look. They feel creamy on the lip, but not slippery. Very dry lips might want to prep with a balm, or finish with a gloss. The benefit of the velvet finish is the incredible wear time. One application lasted me from 7 am to well after 2 pm, through my morning tea and lunch.
Lucy- A nude peachy pink with a slight silvery sheen.
Emma- A true soft rose.
Iris- A soft rust brown red.
Georgia- A vibrant raspberry.
Stella- A saturated red, leaning warm.
Beatrice- A deep berry. (I didn’t get to try Beatrice! It’s on my list!)
Lucy has quickly become my favorite. I don’t normally reach for a shimmery pinky nude, but I LOVE this one! Georgia and Stella are tied for second. I love skipping eye makeup and throwing on a bold lip, and these are both super flattering. I see Emma becoming my go to shade for brides this season, and Iris is a great pick-me-up if you prefer a warmer shade. Click to see looks featuring Lucy, Georgia, and Stella on Instagram.
