I have to say, Kjaer Weis is probably my favorite green beauty line. She ticks all of the boxes for me: gorgeous packaging, high-performance formulas, modern color choices, and meticulously clean ingredients. This chic, luxurious approach is breathing new life into a product category that was previously thought to be inhabited only by low-maintenance mother earth type brands. (Not that there’s anything wrong with being a low-maintenance mother earth type! You deserve beautiful things in your life, too!)
It’s obvious to me that this line was developed by a current working makeup artist. Kirsten Weis of Dutch origins spent massive amounts of time and effort to perfect her formulas with the finest Italian cosmetics labs. Italy has some of the most rigorous organic certification requirements, and it was important to Kirsten to meet those standards. The packaging was done by artist Marc Atlan, also responsible for the iconic Comme des Garcon fragrance bottles. The metal alloy compacts are all refillable, and will last you a lifetime. They are also fairly hefty, so you can probably use them to take out an attacker. Definitely with the foundation compacts.
Speaking of refills, I’m going to be honest. I LOVE the compacts, but I’m very thrifty. I also like to be able to SEE all of my makeup or I will forget it’s in my vanity/kit. I’ve been buying empty Z Palettes for years to fill them up with my favorite products. The Kjaer Weis refills are already magnetic, so have fun creating your own custom palettes if that’s your thing!
The foundation launched after I’d already fallen for the brand. I was SO excited to try it, and definitely wasn’t disappointed. It comes in 5 shades (though I hear there are more coming!). It’s extremely costly to make a large shade range competing with the bigger brands. That said, these shades have been beautifully done. I wear Paper Thin and I sometimes use Like Porcelain as a brighter concealer.
The cream compact holds .26 oz. of product. It looks small, but it lasted me 7 months! You can purchase it in its metal alloy swivel compact, or in a refill. Refills come in a slim cardboard sleeve with a perforated flap that you open to reveal the product. You definitely can’t use or transport the foundation in the refill sleeve very easily.
The finish: The cream itself has a firm, slightly dry texture, and is completely unscented. Medium to build-able coverage. Semi-matte natural finish. The dry texture makes this an excellent concealer for blemishes. I often use something very sheer all over with the Kjaer Weis in strategic areas that need more coverage.
Application: You can definitely use your fingertips, but I love to use creams with a short synthetic buffing brush like my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.
Who it’s for: All skin types. Dry and mature skin will need to moisturize very well and apply while their skin is still moist. A few drops of face oil after moisturizing will really make this foundation beautiful. Combo to oily skin can use oil alone underneath, or nothing for very oily skin.
Why I love it:
- It's my longest lasting foundation. I reach for this when I have an event or any time I need my makeup to stay put all day!
- It's a very effective concealer. It's basically replaced my Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.
- Can be used full coverage while still looking natural.
- Photographs beautifully.
As you can see by my dismal expression in the photo without the Kjaer Weis foundation, I'm much happier with an even glowing skin tone!
